Superscore
A superscore is the combination of a student's highest Reading and Writing section score and highest Math section score across different SAT sittings, rather than the best single-day total.

Why it matters
It changes retake maths. If a college superscores, a sitting that improves one section and drops the other is still a net gain, which makes a second attempt far less risky than it looks. It also means preparation can legitimately be lopsided: fixing your weaker section on the retake is enough.
What people get wrong
Assuming every college does it. Superscoring is a per-college policy, not a College Board one, and a school that does not superscore will read the single best sitting instead. Check each school on your list before planning a section-focused retake around it.
