Which SAT Date Should You Take — and How Many Times?
How to choose an administration around your school calendar and your prep runway — and how many times it is actually worth sitting.
-
What the SAT Actually Costs, End to End
The end-to-end cost of a realistic testing plan, not the $68 sticker. Includes the fee-waiver trap: waivers do not cover the international fee.
-
Every SAT Test Center Near You Is Full. Here's Why.
Why every centre near you shows full, and why that usually means "not yet released" rather than "gone". Centres can reserve roughly 40% of seats for their own students.
-
Will Your Laptop Work on SAT Test Day?
Whether your laptop or tablet will actually work. Personal Chromebooks are prohibited as of Fall 2026, which will strand students who own no second device.
-
SAT Test Day, Hour by Hour: What Actually Happens
The administration hour by hour, what to bring, and what is prohibited — smart glasses were added to that list for Fall 2026.
-
SAT School Day vs the Weekend SAT
School-day SAT scores are identical in content, scoring and admissions weight to weekend scores, they are free, and they superscore. For most juniors that makes it a free scored diagnostic.
-
SAT Accommodations: The Real Timeline
A deadline calendar working backwards from each 2026–27 test date, plus what changed for Fall 2026. Start at least six months out.
-
The SAT for Homeschoolers
Registering without a school code (use 970000), contacting SSD directly with no counsellor, and getting fee waivers without one.
-
The PSAT Ladder: 8/9, PSAT 10, and NMSQT
Three of the four tests in the PSAT ladder carry no stakes at all. Only the 11th-grade PSAT/NMSQT is attached to money.
Common questions
How much does the SAT cost in 2026–27?
$68 to register domestically. Testing internationally adds a $43 regional fee, for $111 total. Late registration and test-centre changes cost extra, and fee waivers cover two registrations — but not the international fee.
Can I use my own laptop for the SAT?
Usually, if it meets the Bluebook requirements — but as of Fall 2026 a personal Chromebook is prohibited. Only school-managed Chromebooks with Verified Mode enabled are permitted. Check roughly 30 days out, because loaner-device requests have a lead time.
What do I do if every SAT test centre near me is full?
Join the waitlist rather than booking a distant centre. Centres can reserve about 40% of seats for their own students up to six weeks ahead, and capacity is now released dynamically — so “full” often means “not yet released”.
How far ahead should I apply for accommodations?
At least six months. Approval needs formal evaluation with documented functional limitations, and documentation standards have tightened. Six months before the 6 March 2027 administration is early September 2026.
Know the test before you sit it
Registration handles the logistics. A free full-length adaptive practice test handles the part that decides your score.
