SAT Registration & Test Day

There are eight SAT administrations in the 2026–27 cycle: 22 August, 12 September, 3 October, 7 November and 5 December 2026, then 6 March, 1 May and 5 June 2027. Registration costs $68 domestically, plus a $43 fee internationally. You test on a laptop or tablet running Bluebook, and the device rules tightened for Fall 2026 — personal Chromebooks are now prohibited, and smart glasses are banned outright. If you need accommodations, the approval process runs on a scale of months, not weeks.

This is the operational half of the SAT, and it is the half almost nobody writes about properly. Every guide below is dated, because every fact on this page has a shelf life.

Common questions

How much does the SAT cost in 2026–27?

$68 to register domestically. Testing internationally adds a $43 regional fee, for $111 total. Late registration and test-centre changes cost extra, and fee waivers cover two registrations — but not the international fee.

Can I use my own laptop for the SAT?

Usually, if it meets the Bluebook requirements — but as of Fall 2026 a personal Chromebook is prohibited. Only school-managed Chromebooks with Verified Mode enabled are permitted. Check roughly 30 days out, because loaner-device requests have a lead time.

What do I do if every SAT test centre near me is full?

Join the waitlist rather than booking a distant centre. Centres can reserve about 40% of seats for their own students up to six weeks ahead, and capacity is now released dynamically — so “full” often means “not yet released”.

How far ahead should I apply for accommodations?

At least six months. Approval needs formal evaluation with documented functional limitations, and documentation standards have tightened. Six months before the 6 March 2027 administration is early September 2026.
