These are the two most requested jumps in SAT prep, they're both worth about 200 points, and almost every guide gives them the same advice. That advice is right for one of them. A student at 1100 and a student at 1200 are failing for different reasons, and the work that moves the first one barely touches the second.
The one test that tells them apart
Before any plan, run this. It takes an afternoon and it decides everything that follows.
Take your last practice test. Open every question you missed, hide the answer, and redo it untimed — before reading a single explanation. Then count.

The reason this has to come before the explanation is that explanations are convincing after the fact. Once you've seen the worked solution, "I could have done that" and "I could have done that" are indistinguishable from the inside. Redo first, read second.
Roughly speaking, students near 1100 land on the content track and students near 1200 land on the execution track — but not always, and the count beats the generalisation. Follow your own result.
The default response to a plateau is to do more of what produced the last gain. That's exactly wrong. Content study raises a low score and then stops paying, because the remaining losses aren't about knowledge any more. A plateau is a signal to change the type of work, not the amount.
Track A: 1100 → 1300 (content)
At 1100 you're missing roughly 35 to 40 questions across the test. That's not a precision problem, and trying to fix it with pacing drills will waste a month.
Where the gaps actually are
Math is the faster half to fix, because the content is finite and closed. Algebra and Advanced Math together are about 70% of the Math section — roughly 30 of the 44 questions. If linear systems, quadratics, and function notation aren't solid, that's where your points are, and nothing else in Math matters until they are.
On the Reading & Writing side, Standard English Conventions is the cheapest real estate on the test. It's a closed list of rules — the SAT tests a predictable set, and the answer choices usually tell you which rule is in play. The eight-week shape

Realistic timeline: eight to twelve weeks. Content takes time to learn and then needs spacing to stay learned. Anyone promising this jump in three weeks is selling something.
The mistake that stalls this track
Taking practice tests too often. A full test every week feels productive and mostly measures a student who hasn't learned anything new since the last one. At this level, take one test every two or three weeks and spend the gap actually closing gaps. The test is a measurement, not the training.
Track B: 1200 → 1400 (execution)
At 1200 you're missing roughly 25 questions, and here's the uncomfortable part: you could probably solve most of them at a kitchen table with no clock. That's what makes this a different problem entirely.
More content study does very little here. You're not short of knowledge — you're losing it between knowing and answering.
The three leaks, in order of size
Misreads. The most common single cause at this band. Solving for x when the question asked for 2x. Picking the answer that's true but wasn't what was asked. Missing the word "not" or "least." These are placed deliberately — when a Math question offers you the value of x as a wrong choice, the test is predicting that exact slip.
The fix is mechanical, not motivational: before solving, underline what's being asked. Before selecting, re-read the final clause of the prompt. Two seconds each, on every question.
Pacing casualties. Questions you never really attempted. These feel like content failures and aren't — studying the topic is wasted effort because you were never given the chance to be wrong about it. The fix is the 90-second rule and disciplined flagging, covered in when to guess, flag, and move on.
Concentrated question types. At 1200 the R&W losses have usually stopped being random and started clustering — inference, rhetorical synthesis, cross-text. Three or four types carrying most of the damage. The diagnosis is here.

The mistake that stalls this track
Buying more content. A course with 4,000 practice questions is precisely the wrong purchase for a student whose problem is that they rush. You'll do 400 questions quickly and reinforce the habit that's costing you the points.

What if you're on both?
Common around 1150 to 1250, and the sequencing is fixed: content first, execution second.
Pacing work on top of shaky content just makes you faster at getting things wrong. Close the gaps, then tighten the process. Doing it in the other order is the most common way to spend eight weeks and move thirty points.
Above 1400
Different problem again, and worth naming so you don't apply this page to it. Past 1400 you're missing perhaps 8 to 12 questions, nearly all of them hard, and the work becomes precision on a handful of specific types plus the Module 1 accuracy that unlocks the higher ceiling.
